La Xenia will have students from many different countries and cultures speaking many different languages but it’s important for students to excel in their English language abilities, therefore it’s expected that students will speak in English not only in class but also around the campus. English will be the common language amongst the international students.

Switzerland’s four (4) national languages are German, French, Italian and Romansh, and English is the most common non-national language.

Students at La Xenia have the opportunity to learn German as knowledge of several languages is an important asset in the hospitality & tourism industry. Also knowing German will assist the students in securing future internships in Switzerland.

At La Xenia, maintaining a professional and respectful appearance is essential during class hours and organized activities. All students must appear presentable and well-kept during class hours. Below are the guidelines for student attire:

Uniform: Students must wear the official La Xenia uniform polo shirt with the La Xenia logo on the front. Both short-sleeved and long-sleeved versions will be provided.

Layering: It is permitted to wear a solid-colored long-sleeve t-shirt beneath the polo. Accepted colors include: black, white, navy, dark purple, beige.

Outerwear: Jackets or cardigans may be worn to and from class in cold weather but must be removed during class.

Plain, solid-colored skirts in the approved colors. Stockings may be worn with skirts, but are not a requirement.

Shorts in hot weather (jean shorts or solid-colored shorts in the approved colors)

Footwear: Solid-colored ballerinas, sneakers, boots, dress shoes, or heels (heels must be below 7 cm).

Make-up: Makeup is permitted. Eye-shadow must be in a neutral colour.

Shorts in hot weather (solid-colored shorts in the approved colors or jean shorts without rips).

Footwear: Solid-colored sneakers, dress shoes, or boots.

Long hair (below shoulder): Must be tied in a ponytail, bun, or braid.

Long hair: Can be worn down or, worn with a simple solid colour hairclib, tied in a ponytail, bun or braided according to student preference. Must be well kept.

Simple and subtle jewelry, such as small earrings or plain rings.

Hats, caps, and sunglasses (unless for outdoor activities where appropriate).

Piercings (other than ear piercings) must not be overly noticeable or distracting.

Students should maintain good personal hygiene and neat grooming at all times. Clothing must be clean, , and free of stains. Students should use perfumes or colognes sparingly, keeping in mind others who may have sensitivities or allergies. Nails should be clean and well-maintained. For practical classes, long nails or elaborate nail art should be avoided for safety and hygiene purposes.

During Class Hours: Students must wear the uniform polo shirt, and adhere to the general dress-code. Bottoms and shoes should be suitable for the activity (e.g., hiking boots for hiking trips). Hats and sunglasses are permitted.

Outside of Class Hours: All attire is permitted, following the same restrictions as after class hours (no profanity, nudity, or offensive graphics).

General Rules for Dress Code and Uniform Specifications

Students are required to be correctly dressed, in appropriate La Xenia uniform according to the dress code specified above, at all times from the start of classes, until after the final class each day. This regulation includes theoretical classes and educational excursions. The dress code must also be followed during the examination period for examinations and meal times. There may be other occasions in which students will be required to wear La Xenia’s uniform, and students will be informed of these occasions in advance.

When in the dorm area and inside leisure areas, outside shoes must be removed. Only house slippers and socks are permitted.

Students are not permitted to be barefoot in common areas at any time.

Students may wear casual attire, except clothing that portrays any of the following; profanity, offensive graphics, nudity or similar.

All students will be provided with 1 set of La Xenia’s uniform polo (included in the Operating Expenses) upon arrival to La Xenia Campus.

If students wish to purchase an extra set of La Xenia’s polo, students must inform the Administrative Office or Student Services Center. Extra uniforms may not be in stock, so the student might have to wait before the student receives the new uniform. Alternatively students can order before arriving at La Xenia campus with the Admission Office and make the payment together with the rest of the payment after visa approval to ensure uniform is received all upon arrival.
